Hi everyone! We hope you are safe and well. To virtual or to in-person, is the question on everyone’s mind as things in the UK and around the world seem to fluctuate between lockdown measures and hot girl summer. We kick off this newsletter with Mary’s thought process for deciding whether in-person is worth it or not.

Assuming it is safe for you to do so, some arguments for attending in-person events and gatherings.

  • Connect with new people — meeting people online is great but remember connection and compatibility are much easier to determine face-to-face.

  • Get to meet internet friends in the flesh — consider which friendships or connections you want to take to the next level and suggest meeting in person for a walk or a coffee at a cute spot

  • Build up your social skills — it is easy to forget how to engage with people when you can’t go on mute. Start with 1:1 meetings to gradually build up your social skills for in-person conversations

  • Address your social anxiety — the more you hype up your first restaurant visit, meeting or BBQ post-lockdown, the more nervous you get and resort to staying in the comfort of your home

  • Finally, seize the day — there is no time like the present to get out there and make memories!

Overall, do what is best for you but don’t become afraid of being outside or in social places. You got this!
