In the Know (Feb 2022)

Hi, Bayode here and welcome to our February newsletter! In this edition, I start by sharing my thoughts on bouncing back from career-related setbacks. We hope it resonates with some of you. We also have lots of exciting events coming up and our usual heap of resources. Enjoy!

Staying motivated can be very hard. I hate when people pretend as though it is the easiest thing in the world because sometimes it is not. We all have setbacks in life and recently I have had a few. I am still in university, and right now my focus is on what I will do after my degree. Last month was a very intense month for me, applying for numerous vacation schemes at law firms and getting rejected by most of them including one of my dream firms. It was quite disheartening and truth be told I was down for a bit. I began doubting myself and becoming demotivated. However, I had to remind myself that I need to keep going.

It is very hard, trying to bounce back and stay positive but it is way better than beating yourself up about something you cannot change. When I was down I felt so unproductive, started skipping lectures and didn’t want to attend my seminars.

I quickly realised I was doing myself more harm than good. Rejections are a part of life, they are bound to happen, However one thing we can control is how we react to them. They can either make or break you. Yes it’s okay to cry for a bit or binge watch Netflix but don’t let it get the best of you. Take a moment to yourself to reset and plan just the next step forward you can take.
