Given it is Black History Month in the UK and that this network is co-run by two black women, we wanted to dedicate this whole issue to celebrating and discussing black women’s creations, contributions and accolades. Here are 4 simple ways to support black women:
Amplify their work and achievements — I’ve just read ‘Big Friendship’ by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman and I absolutely loved it! A beautiful book about how to cultivate sustainable friendships in a digital age with hilarious anecdotes and insights into academic research on friendship. They are famous for the term Shine theory which is all about shining a light on other women in opposition to competitive womanhood.
Support their side hustles and businesses — simple! #Openyourpurse — check out this amazing report supported by Google showcasing the contributions of black entrepreneurs
Cheer them on — everyone needs support and acknowledgement of when they have been killing it, let a black woman you admire know that today 📢📢
Tell a friend to tell a friend — when you meet someone brilliant tell others about them or their services too 💖💖
It really is that simple.
